Some wedding days begin with a quiet sense of anticipation. Others begin with a celebration.

Christine’s morning started surrounded by her closest friends, champagne already flowing and laughter filling the room. When she stepped outside with her bridesmaids, bottle raised high, the energy of the day was already clear. This was a wedding built around joy, around the people who had gathered to celebrate alongside them.

As a photographer, those early moments are often when I begin to understand the rhythm of a day. The way a couple interacts with their friends, the way the room feels before the ceremony even begins. With Christine and Andrew, there was a sense of ease and excitement that carried through every part of the celebration. Honestly, the joy couldn’t be held back.

Their ceremony took place outside as the sun began to drop lower in the sky, casting warm light across the landscape. Christine and Andrew stood beneath a floral arch surrounded by family and friends, the evening light settling softly around them. When they walked back down the aisle together afterward, the celebration truly began, guests applauding as they stepped forward into the next part of their story.

Throughout the day, music was never far away. Live musicians performed during the ceremony and reception, their sound drifting through the space and shaping the atmosphere of the evening. These details add a layer of movement, of texture, to a wedding day, something you can feel even as you move quietly through the room with a camera.

LaBelle Winery itself became part of the story as well. Inside the cellar, rows of wooden barrels lined the walls, the light falling gently through the windows above. Christine and Andrew paused there for portraits together, a quiet breath before returning to the celebration unfolding outside. It was a technically complicated situation for film. I had to “push” my film, shooting my 800 speed at 1600. The result was incredible, bright highlights, deep contrast but plenty of detail.

Christine’s personality shone through in the details of the day. At one point, surrounded by bright, textured florals, she laughed as her bouquet and the surrounding arrangements framed her face in color. It was playful and spontaneous, the kind of moment that happens naturally when a couple feels completely at ease within their own celebration.

As the evening moved forward, the reception floor filled quickly. Music, dancing, and conversation carried late into the night, the energy of the day still present in every corner of the room.

For weddings like Christine and Andrew’s, film photography feels especially meaningful. Film has a way of holding onto atmosphere. It feels like a more permanent memory, rather than another photo on our “camera roll” of thousands. It preserves not only what the day looked like, but the feeling of being there.

By the end of the night, what remained was the memory of a celebration that felt effortless and joyful from beginning to end. A gathering of friends and family, music and laughter, and two people excitedly stepping into the next chapter of their lives surrounded by the people who matter most.
